Conference Summary
The widow penalty is nearly ended, but there is one more critical step. The Senate DHS Appropriations Bill contained the amendment introduced by Senator Hatch (R-UT), and based on Senator Nelson's (D-FL) and Congressman McGovern's (D-MA) bills. The "one pager" to the right explains the significance of the Hatch Amendment (SA 1428) to the battle to end the widow penalty.

The DHS Appropriations Subcommittee members listed below will be in a position to keep the widow penalty in the final DHS Appropriations bill when they meet this month to reconcile the differences between House and Senate versions. It is critical to our fight that you contact these members and tell them to support the Hatch Amendment (SA 1428). You may use the one pager to educate their staff about the issue.
